New Moon Yin Yoga, Tuesday 16th June from 7.30 - 9pm, at Still Point Studio, Ilfracombe

The New Moon marks the beginning of a new lunar cycle, as the moon begins its 29.5-day journey around the Earth before returning once again to darkness and renewal. It offers us a beautiful opportunity to do the same - to pause, reset, and begin anew.

This class is an invitation to come as you are. To rest, find stillness, tend to the needs of your heart, mind, and spirit, or simply be.

Together, we will settle into the energy of the Gemini New Moon, a cycle associated with communication, curiosity, connection, and movement. Through gentle yin yoga, breath, and reflection, we’ll create space to gather ourselves, take stock of where we are, and plant seeds of intention for what we’d like to cultivate in the weeks ahead.
And while we explore the subtle energies of the moon, don’t worry if all of that feels a little “up in the clouds.” Come meet me on the mat, and we’ll ground into ourselves together - with a good old stretch along the way.

So….When we feel off centre or panicky we are often told to take a deep breath 🧐

Not great advice. When we oxygenate the body we are telling it we are preparing for fight or flight.

To bring us back into the parasympathetic nervous system (the happy one) we need to increase our CO2 levels to tell our body’s we are safe.

Here’s how:

Make sure your exhales are longer than your inhales. Simple ✨
Practise long exhales through pursed lips like you are making a candle dance.

We are always 3 long exhales from centre 💕

Practising breath retention on an exhale increases our Co2 tolerance which helps us to stay calmer and perform better during exercise too💡

Emotions just want to be acknowledged and given time so that they can pass through.

We are often scared of big emotions, frightened that they may consume us and we won’t come back, but apparently intense emotions can only be held by the body for a maximum of 90 seconds before they subside and ease. We can do that. What we bury stays in body until we give it the time it’s asking for.

Dive in and feel fully to let them go. Maybe try SWAMPING 😆😆

Maybe without bin bags and war paint….or maybe not 😂

Music is a powerful universal language that helps us to feel. Let’s use it 💗

(Note the angry music wasn’t what I actually listened to I’m just making a point, can’t stand that noise 😆)

It’s children who normally remind us of the value of play…they make us remember life before it got serious. We don’t have to give up play…our bodies and our nervous systems LOVE it.

Mini challenge for today, fit in 10 mins of playtime…just because…then feel your body light up with all the happy chemicals 🥳👌🏻💗

Remember✨ when we set ourselves goals, to set them incrementally. If we decide one day we are going to run a marathon when we can barley get around the block, the first day we feel achey after 30mins training our brains are going to be on full power telling us that we are never going to be able to do it.

HOWEVER, if we set ourselves a 2% improvement challenge each day towards something bigger, then we are going to celebrate each improvement and start believing that we can meet our challenges.

Belief is everything.

Dream big, act incrementally but consistently 2% everyday.

Maybe this week you commit to 1 new healthy habit...or join a new class 😉
